Decaffeinated

Our decaf coffee is decaffeinated using the Swiss Water® Process. This is a clean decaffeinating method which uses 100% green coffee extract and carbon to filter the caffeine out. This method ensures only caffeine is removed to keep the original quality of the beans intact.

The Swiss Water® Process uses the elements of water, temperature and time to create some of the most intriguing and flavorful decaffeinated coffee.

This method overcomes the problem of extracting desirable oils and other solids from the bean (which results in a less flavorful brewed coffee) by using processing water saturated with these desirable coffee components thus reducing or eliminating their extraction during the decaffeination process.  Water saturated in this way is referred to as Green Coffee Extract (GCE).

GCE is created using a separate batch of green coffee beans that are immersed in water and then discarded. The GCE is then filtered to remove only the caffeine from it. A fresh batch of green coffee beans is then immersed in the GCE, which can only absorb the caffeine because it is already saturated with the other matter that would dissolve in the water. The process of filtering the GCE to remove caffeine and immersing the beans is repeated until the beans are 99.9% caffeine free by mass.
